IB Website - Reflection

  • When I started this activity, I was very excited about having a creative outlet for my imagination. Being able to start with a blank webpage was the best part because I was not very limited in what I could do. As I started to figure out the program I was using, I became more excited about the different features. I felt like a kid playing with a new toy while I was working on this activity. But it wasn’t all excitement. I also became very frustrated at times with the system. Sometimes I would accidently delete something but a click of a button that I didn’t know even existed. Although I do use computers often, I was not familiar with the layout of this program; therefore I sometimes had trouble navigating around the different applications. This would really cause me to become frustrated when I had just gotten a lot of work done and I couldn’t complete the task because the program wasn’t working or I didn’t know how to perform a certain function.
  • I perceived this activity to be a change to expand my knowledge about the web. I surf the internet very often but I didn’t know what was required to create the websites I used so often. After doing this activity, I was able to understand how the internet worked and how many sites I used were created using the same program I used.
  • · I think this activity, creating a website, was a great way to be creative. It also allowed me to go into depth about IB, a program I’ve been in since the 7th grade. It was a way to expand my horizons and try my hand at something new. I’ve always wanted to become more familiar with the internet and I had finally gotten my chance with this activity. And believe me I was not disappointed. I had a lot of fun while creating the website. I would often become so engrossed in my work that I wouldn’t realize that I had stayed up so late or forgotten to eat a meal.
  • This activity means a lot to me because the result of it was something that I am fairly proud of. I was excited when I created this website and I still get excited when I go through it and make adjustments. I enjoy the fact that I was able to use my mind and create anything I wanted. Although I did get my ideas from other sources, the finish product was from my ideas and that I something I am proud of.
  • The creation of this IB website holds value to be both academically and personally. As a career choice, I see that computers are not something that is completely difficult for me to understand. While trying this new activity I was able to understand whether or not I had enough skills to pull this task off.
  • There are many lessons in this activity that can be used for more things. The creative aspect can be used in multiple projects that have to do with creation. The design aspect of the website can be applied to paintings, movies and other styles of art. No art is really original, something I have learned at school. This idea was exemplified in this activity because even the design I created was not completely my own. I took ideas from images and websites I had seen previously and created my own idea from those things. This concept can be applied to any situation when you have to create your own opinion. If you are asked to convey an event that occurred, you would not only include your personal experience but also things that you have heard from other people. The designing of a website is just like forming an idea and displaying it for everyone else to do.
