Tutoring Center

I have tutored that Corona Public Library since 7th grade for community service hours and as an extra activity to do afterschool. Tutoring is a very important service for the community. The local library offers homework help to children in elementary school. The tutors are usually between the grades of 7th and 12th.

Usually I tutor the same kids every day that come straight to the library after their school ends to work on their homework. Sometimes the kids are very focused and obedient, others are focused on the games they can play after they finish their homework and hard to teach. I had one girl, Hailie, who would consistently come to the tutoring center and get help on her homework from me. Once she was comfortable with me as her tutor, she became more open about what she wanted to do, which was more often than not play the games. Slowly, she would finish her homework and then rush to play the games. The thing with the kids is that you can’t be too harsh as to hurt their feelings, but being too lenient can also be a bad thing.

It took some time for me to find the balance between the two and eventually I became accustomed to teaching little kids. While I can say that I won’t become an elementary school teacher, I surely don’t mind tutoring the kids once and a while.
